Bedford Borough Council

Bedford Borough Council became an Unitary Authority on 1 April 2009 responsible for transport and highway matters together with Central Bedfordshire Council on the dissolution of Bedfordshire County Council.

Cycling England

Cycling England was the national body set up by the Department for Transport in 2005 charged with planning and co-ordinating the development of cycling across the country. The organisation was discontinued by the government on 31 March 2011. Information from the era can be found on the Department for Transport's archived website.

Active Travel England

Active Travel England is an executive agency set up by the government in January 2022. It is responsible for making walking, wheeling and cycling the preferred choice for everyone to get around with the objective for 50% of trips in England's towns and cities to be walked, wheeled or cycled by 2030.

Sustrans is the UK's leading sustainable transport charity behind the National Cycle Network, Connect2, Safe Routes to Schools, Bike It, TravelSmart, Active Travel and Liveable Neighbourhoods.

National Cycle Network Routes 6, 12 and 51 pass through Bedfordshire, Route 51 through Bedford.

The National Byway

The National Byway is a 3,500 mile signposted leisure cycle route round Britain with 65 miles within North Bedfordshire between Everton and Woburn.

The Cycling UK, originally CTC (Cyclists' Touring Club), is the national organisation working for cycling since 1878.

Govia Thameslink Railway

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) took over from First Capital Connect (FCC) on 14 September 2014 as the rail franchise operator between Bedford and Brighton via St Pancras International and between Peterborough and Kings Cross.
